| Introduction |

| The DF's Research Awards Program offers career development awards, fellowships, and grants that are intended to advance the early academic careers and research efforts of physicians and scientists in dermatology and cutaneous biology. An emphasis is placed on supporting research that benefits the dermatology community at large and has significant potential to advance patient care. It is the expectation that the recipients of Foundation awards will be tomorrow’s expert teachers, innovative investigators and master clinicians in dermatology. |

| 2012 Research Award Applications Now Being Accepted |

| Award descriptions, eligibility requirements and detailed applications instructions for the 2012 DF research awards awards are available under the Quick Links section on this page. Please read the Applicant Instructions carefully before beginning your paperwork. Feel free to contact the DF staff with any questions. Applications are due October 17th. | Important Information for Dermatology Department Chairs and Mentors |
| |
|
Letters of support are important components required for all DF research awards. Department chairs and applicant mentors are asked to pay close attention to the content required in the letters and comments of support. Chairs are required to submit their comments of support using the “Chairs Comments of Support” form. Research Grant applications require a letter of support from the Chair only if the applicant is not applying for a career development award. Mentors are always to provide a formal letter of support. Applicants should be certain all forms and/or letters cover the necessary topics before they are submitted to the Foundation (see section IV of the Applicant Instructions). Forms or letters that do not meet the Foundation's content requirements will cause an application to be incomplete, and will be returned.
As in past years, the number of new applications submitted by a single academic institution is subject to a quota for each Foundation award (see New Application Quotas). Requests for renewal of career development awards are not subject to these quotas. |

| Renewing a Career Development Award |
| |
| Recipients of career development awards may request renewal for a second or third year of funding. Renewal requests for 2012 are due to the Foundation office no later than November 1, 2011. Instructions for preparing a renewal package can be found in section VI of the Applicant Instructions. |

| Information for Current Award Recipients |
| |
| Award recipients can do something specific to help the Dermatology Foundation continue funding the research projects of today. The Foundation has prepared a PowerPoint slide to be used in your research presentations. It reads: "The Dermatology Foundation has supported and advanced my career."
